Aschaffenburg - Pompejanum

Am Samstag standen die Ausstellungen des Quiltfestivals auf dem Programm welche ich persönlich als sehr enttäuschend empfand. Ein großer Teil der Ausstellungen hatte mit Patchwork nur noch am Rande etwas zu tun und konnte eher in die Kategorie textile Kunst eingereiht werden. Es gab kaum traditionelle  Quilt in diesen Ausstellungen! Die modernen Quilts waren von der Verarbeitung her sehr enttäuschend - eben  Kunst aber kein Kunsthandwerk. Davon abgesehen gab es nur noch an zwei Veranstaltungsorten Austellungen. 2009 gab es in sechs verschiedenen Orten alle mögliche Arten an Quilts.



On Saturday I visited the various exhibitions - but they weren't my cup of tea. The quilts fit largely in the category textile art than Quilts. There were hardly one traditional Quilt on display and the modern quilts were more art than handicraft. Beside that there were only on two locations exhibitions - in 2009 there were on six locations all different kind of quilts.

Also habe ich den Tag dazu genutzt dem Pompejanum einen Besuch abzustatten. Eben Genanntes ist eine rekostruierte Villa aus Pompeji, welche im Auftrag des legendären König Ludwig I.  1840 gebaut wurde.

So I spent the day sightseeing and visited the Pompejanum. It is a reconstruction of a roman Villa at Pompeji built in 1840 by King Ludwig I.

Im zweiten Weltkrieg wurden große Teile des Pompejanums im Bomenhagel zerstört und ab 1960 wieder aufgebaut. Das Atrium ist mit seinen Säulen, den Statuetten, dem kleinen Brunnen und den Wandmalereien der zentralste und auch schönste Raum.

In the second worldwar large parts of the Pompejanum  were destroyed in a hail of bombs and recreated from 1960 onwards. The attrium with its columns, stattuetes, the small well and the wall paintings is the most beautiful room.

 

In den zahlreichen Nebenräumen sind wertvolle Originale ausgestellt - wie z.B. ein seltener Opferaltar aus Mamor, oder dienen als Beispiele für Wohnräume - wie z.b. das Speisezimmer mit römischen Liegen. Die prachtvollen Wandmalerein kann man überall in der Villa finden.

In numerous secondary rooms are valuables Originals displayed - like a rare sacrificial altar made from marble. Some are decorated like original living rooms like the dining room with roman divans. You can find the gorgeous wall painting in any room.

 

 

Zahlreiche originale Fundstücke aus Pompeji sind ebenfalls ausgestellt. Z.b. ein Fragment einer Wandmalerei, das zwei Musikantinnen zeigt oder ein römisches Babyfläschchen.

There are a lot of original artefacts are displayed like the fragment of a wall painting showing two female musicians or a baby bottle.

Aschaffenburg - Main-Quiltfestival

Ich habe ja einige Zeit in Deutschland gelebt, genauer gesagt in Aschaffenburg und habe das Quiltfestival zum Anlaß genommen um meine zweite Heimat wieder einmal zu besuchen.

Das Festival begann am vergangenen Freitag und den (hitzebedingt seeehr) zeitigen Morgen habe ich "nostalgisch" begonnen und bin meiner liebgewonnenen Walkingstrecke im Schönbusch gefolgt. Der Schönbusch ist ein wunderschöner, sehr großzügig angelegter Landschaftspark, der 1775 vom damaligen Erzbischof von Mainz und Kurfürsten als Lustgarten und zur Jagd angelegt wurde.


Last weekend I visited the Quiltfestival in Aschaffenburg/Germany. I lived for many years in this small bavarian town and took the occaison to see my second hoemtown again.

I spend the early morning on my favourite walking route at the park Schönbusch. The park is a wonderful and quite large. It was founded by the Archbishop of Mainz in 1775 as a pleasure garden and for hunting.

 Der restlichen Tag wurde in der gut klimatisierten Verkaufsaustellung (Außentemperatur: 37 Grad) verbracht und zu guter Letzt gibt noch einen Blick auf meine "Beute".

Kalte Dusche

Mit einer kalten Dusche wurde dieser Kleine heute ziemlich unsanft aus seinem Tagesschlaf gerissen. Zum Schlafen hatte er es sich unter dem großen Salbeistrauch gemütlich gemacht. Dumm nur, das heute abend Blumengießen auf der To-do Liste stand. Kein Wunder also, daß er dann auch keine Lust auf einen Fototermin hatte und sein Gesicht mürrisch einzog.

A cold shower brought a ratherrude awakening to the hedgehog in my garden. He slept during the day under the salvia bush. Unfortunately "water the flowers" was on my todo list for the evening. No wonder he didn't want to look in the camera and curled instead carbbyly up.

Ich freue mich aber jedes mal wenn ich den Igel wieder sehe. Er íst schon etwas Besonderes - in einem Hinterhofgarten im Wiener Stadtgebiet...

 I'm happy everytime I see him - he is something special in the backyard in the urban space of Vienna.

Viele Blümchen

gibt's derzeit in meinen Garten. Aufgenommen habe ich die Fotos vor ein paar Tagen knapp vor Einbruch der Kälteperiode:

Am Pflanzenraritätenmarkt habe ich die ersten beiden Pflanzen erstanden. Die tief dunkelrote Pfingstrose "Buckeye Bell"mit den frechen hellgelben Blütenstempeln, die zu meiner Freude auch gleich ein Jahr nach der Pflanzung blüht.
Das nächste Bild zeigt eine Lupine mit der eher ungewöhnlichen scharlachroten Farbe.


The flowers are blooming. I took those pictures just befor the weather changed. At a rarities market I bought the next two plants. The peony "Buckeye bell" with a very intense dark red and light yellow pistils. The next picture shows a lupin with a  rather uncommon scarlet red.

 

Die Margeriten habe ich letztes Jahr aus Samen gezogen. Sie passen recht schön zum blau blühenden Salbei (dalmatinischer Salbei, welcher in der italienische Küche versendet wird).

I grew the maguerites from seeds last year. They look good with the blue blossoms of salvia.

Auf der Terasse blüht der koreanische Flieder überreich. Die Pflanze ist jetzt das vierte Jahr im Topf und hat zuvor meist nur vereinzelt Blüten getragen. Dieses Jahr zeigt er seine hellviolette, fast weiße Blütenpracht und der wunderbare Duft breitet sich sogar durch die geöffneten Fenster in die Wohnung aus. Diese Fliedersorte ist als Topfpflanze wunderbar geeignet.

On the patio the korean Lilac is blooming. The plant grows the forth year in a pot. The years before there were only sporadic blossoms, but this year the plant shows it light violet, nearly white flowerage. Especially in the evening the wonderful scent waft through the open windows into the livingroom. This varitey is very good for growing in pots.

Arcadia

heißt der Schal und Wollmeise das Garn - schön ist er geworden.

Winterpsaß

 Das nächste Projekt ist "Der Baum des Lebens". Die Tasche ist fertig gestrickt und wird gerade mit dem Baum bestickt. Ich hoffe sehr, das es nach dem filzen immer noch so gut aussieht

 The next project is tree of life. The bag is knitted and I am currently stiching the tree on it. I do so hope that after felting it will still look good.

Nun zu den Kreuzstichprojekten - dieses Jahr habe ich ein wenig an all den Projekten gestickt.

And now the cross stitch projects - I stitched a few rows on all of them:

Als nächsted kommen 2 Tischtücher - einmal mit Kräutern für den Frühling und einmal mit Stechpalme für den Winter

Die letzten beiden Projekte sind Applikation/Patchworkarbeiten und zwar Love Letters von Black Bird design und Pie & Tarts aus Reproduktionsstoffen.

Marella

Die Marella ist fertig geworden. Der Schal ist wirklich einfach und schnell zu stricken und sieht mit dem hangefärbten Garn super aus.  _Ich habe die etwas größere Variante mit 235 Maschen im glatt rechts Teil gestrickt. Selbst 150 Gramm Sockenwolle reichten dann aber nicht mehr für den gesamten Schal. Die letzten Reihen wurden mit dunkelgrauen Araucania gestrickt.

Marella is finished. The shawl is easy an quick to knit and looks beautiful with handdyed yarn. I knitted the larger version with 235 stitches in the garter part and ran out of yarn(150 Gramm) in the very last part of the shawl. The last rows were knitted with Aurocania in dark grey.
