Grow your blog 2015

Today is the Grow your blog party hosted by Vicky at 2bagsfull. I like to take part at it and looking forward to find interesting blogs from people arround the world.

My name is Christina, I live in Vienna and my blog is some kind of diary for all the hobbies that are important to me. Even though I consider my english not that bad, I prefer to blog more pictures than text. So if you have a little time I hope you enjoy my fotonovela.

What will you find here?
First of all, a lot of my needlework projects, like knitting

and crochet things, preferably doilies

also some stiching

and patchwork projects.

 Be aware, that you will find a lot of WIP's here and probably no further update on it for a decade or so... ;-)

But eventually all the projects will be finished - even If some mean flatmates are determined to sabotage it.

Another big love is my garden.

I grow mostly vegetables and herbs. On the patio there are mediterrenean plants and to please the eye  there are also some flowers. I will tell you about planting

which leades me to my next obsession - my cats. The porch climber above is Daphne, she is 8 years old and a european shorthair with the skeleton of an asian breed.


Amy might have some DNA form a britisch shorthair, but is mostly simple housecat too and with her 10 years the senior. My beauty has the rare silver tabby in her fur and all three colors on her tiny nose.

The newest addition is Perseus the very young stray who moved in a couple of month ago. He is so full of mischief!

Garfield is a stray who visits me for his breakfast and dinner every day. Allthough he's been here for five years I am still not allowed to touch him.

As much as I like to devote my life to my hobbies I also have and unfortunately need a fulltime job, so please be not upset if you find quite large breaks between the posts.

Jacke mit Spitzenteil

Diese Jacke ist nun fertig geworden. Der Spitzenteil hat ganz schön viel Garn "gefressen", dafür wurde sie in einem Stück gestrickt und ich habe mir das nervtötende Zusammennähen erspart.

Adama

... heißt das sehr einfache Schalmuster. 900 Meter Lace Wolle in einem sehr schönen dunklen Blau habe ich dafür verstrickt.

I'm more of a autumn and christmas stitcher. Halloween is not that important or known in Europe, but it gets more and more popular around here.  I too have a few very cute Halloween Designs as well. One of them is the flying witch from Prairie Schooler's "Harvest time" on which I added a few pumpkins.

Abschied, Trauer und Willkommen

Orpheus litt Ende August an einer degenerativen Wirbelsäulenerkrankung. Die hintere Wirbelsäule verkalkte so stark, das sie die Nerven im Wirbelkanal einengte. (Er war erst 4 Jahre alt) Innerhalb von einer Woche konnte er die Hinterbeine nicht mehr bewegen und war inkontinent. Diese Erkrankung war leider nicht behandelbar und er mußte eingeschläfert werden.

My cat Orpheus suffered from a degenerative spinal disease. The spine calcified and put too much pressure on the nerves. (He was only 4 years old). His rump was paralyzed, he could not move his hint legs and was incontinent. There was no cure for this disease and I had to put him down.

 

Meine andere Katze, Daphne, kam danach 8 Wochen lang nicht mehr nach Hause und ließ sich von mir auch nicht mehr anfassen. Zum Glück fraß sie aber das Futter das ich ihr in den Garten stellte. Der Tierarzt meinte die Trauer bei Katzen kann auch bis zu 16 Wochen dauern. Mittlerweile kommt sie wieder regelmäßig in die Wohnung fressen und heute durfte ich sie auch wieder streicheln.

  My other cat, Daphne, didn’t come home for the next 8 weeks and I was not allowed to touch her. At least she ate the food I put in the garden. The vet said that it could take up to 16 weeks for a cat to mourn. Now she is coming in the flat for her food and today was the first day she let me pet her again.

Eigentlich wollte ich ja keine weitere Katze, das war aber dem kleinen roten Streunerkater ziemlich egal. Er zog bei mir nur 4 Tage nach Orpheus' Tod einfach ein und hatte am Anfang sogar panische Angst, das er wieder hinaus muß. Ich schätze er ist ein Jahr alt und sehr verspielt und verschmust. In der Tradition hat auch er einen alten griechischen Namen bekommen - Perseus.

I didn’t want another cat, but that was not a priority for the little red stray tomcat. He moved in only 4 days after Orpheus death and was petrified that he had to go outside again.  I estimate that he is about 1 year old and very kittenish and cuddly. In my tradition he received another old greek name – Perseus.

Anstrengend...

... war das Jahr. Im April habe ich einen neue Arbeitsstelle angetreten und mußte - und muß - sehr viel Neues lernen. Dazu kommt noch das der Job ein sehr konzentriertes Arbeiten erfordert und das hat ganz schön an meinen Reserven gezerrt, sodass ich diesen Sommer kaum noch die Energie für Garten oder sonstige Hobbys hatte. Jetzt geht es wieder ein wenig besser und das möchte ich gleich nutzen um mein Blog Schritt für Schritt auf den neueseten Stand zu bringen.

This year was exhausting. I started a new Job in spring and had – and still has – a lot of new things to learn. In addition it requires a lot of concentration and so I hadn’t much energy left for my garden and all the other hobbies. Now it is getting a bit better and I like to update my Blog step by step.

Marillenblüte

Der Marillenbaum (Aprikosenbaum) ist immer einer der allerersten Bäume in Blüte. Wie jedes Frühjahr ist er auch diesmal wieder ein wunderbarer Anblick.

The apricottree is one of the first trees to be in bloom. Like every spring it is a wonderful sight.

Die letzten Tage habe ich im Gemüsegarten die abgestorbenen Pflanzenteilen aus dem letzten Jahr entfernt und bereits die ersten Aussaaten getätigt. Bei den frühsommerlichen Temperaturen fangen  langsam schon die Tulpen zu blühen an, und sind damit fast ein Monat zu früh.  Auch der  Salat, den ich letztes Jahr im Spätherbst gepflanzt habe wächst kräftig und wird in den nächsten Wochen erntereif sein.

I spent the last day to disposte the old, died off plants from last year and did some sowing. The temperatures around here are more like early summer than spring and the tulips start to bloom a good month too early. The salad I planted last autumn growed too and will be harvested in the next weeks.

Ganz viel Zeit

Zum Glück habe ich im März viiieell Zeit, bevor ich im April meine neue Arbeitsstelle antreten werde, und die habe ich selbstverständlich auch zum sticken genutzt.

I am quite lucky to have a lot of time in march before I start at my new job in april and I used it wise and stitched a lot.

Ich habe auch Santa's magic aus dem WIP Korb geholt und ein wenig daran herumgewerkelt.

Die SBCC (Stitching bandit Chatelaine Challenge) startete vor einigen Wochen und ich nahm die Gelegenheit wahr meinen lange vernachlässigten Konstantinople Hamam wieder hervor zu holen.

The SBCC (Stitching bandit Chatelaine Challenge) started a few weeks back and this is a good oppurtunity to remeber my neglected Konstantinople Hamam.

Und weil's 'grad so schön ist, habe ich mir das Material für den Osterbaum von acufactum liefern lassen. Bei diesem Design gibt es leider eine Unmenge an petit point Stichen (über einen Faden auf einem 12er Leinen). Ein richtiges Geduldsspiel aber wie ich finde ein wunderschönes Ostermotiv.

And I decided to sart a new project. It is Osterbaum from acufactum. It has an awful lot of petit point in it (over 1 thread on a 32 count linnen). A real puzzel but I do love this beautiful easter motif.

Und hier möchte ich Euch auch noch kurz meinen Lieblingsplatz zum Sticken vorstellen.

Für die Sommergäste

Letztes Jahr sind leider nur Ameisen in den Hummelkasten eingezogen. Deshalb gab es nun einen Rundum Frühjahrsputz. Die alte Nistwolle wurde entsorgt und frische Kapokwolle in den Kasten gelegt; Deckel darauf und alles wieder schön "zugebuddelt".

Unfortunately only ants occupied the nestbox for the bumblebees last year. So it was time for some serious springcleaning in their home. The old nesting wool was disposed and fresh Kapokwool put in the box. I closed the lid and put a few centimeter soil above it.

Bei den Temperaturen um die 18 Grad fangen schon die Frühjahrsblumen um etwa drei Wochen zu früh zu blühen an und die Hummelköniginnen werden bereits aktiv. Ich hoffe, das Quartier gefällt ihnen und ich habe wieder eine Hummelkolonie im Garten.

We have had very warm weather in the last days with temperature around 18° celsius (64° F). The spring flower started to bloom three weeks too early and the bumblebee Queens are already activ. I hope they like their home an start a colonie in my garden.

Aber nicht nur die Hummel haben das schöne Wetter genutzt um sich die Sonne auf den Pelz brennen zu lassen. Orpheus nutze ebenfalls jede Minute für ein Sonnenbad.

Not only the bumblebees took advantage of the nice Wetter. Orpheus used as well every minute for a sunbath.
